Official Launching of the Montreal Declaration for a Responsible Development of Artificial Intelligence

At the conclusion of the Forum Responsible AI, was announced the preliminary version of the Declaration, aiming to spark public debate and encourage a progressive and inclusive orientation to the development of AI. The new version of the Declaration Responsible AI, enriched by the citizen experience and the expert perspectives from all horizons was unveiled on December 4, 2018 by Marc-Antoine Dilhac, Professor at the Department of Philosophy at Université de Montréal and Christophe Abrassart, professor at the School of Design at the Université de Montréal.

 

CIRANO is one of the partners in this initiative and several CIRANO researchers have been involved in the various stages and events associated with it. More particularly, Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin (Polytechnique Montréal and CIRANO), Benoit Dostie (HEC Montréal and CIRANO), Thierry Warin (HEC Montréal and CIRANO), and Christophe Mondin, Research Professional at CIRANO.

 

Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin was part of the Declaration Steering Committee under the direction of Louise Béliveau, Vice-President, Student Affairs and Studies, Université de Montréal and Marie-Josée Hébert, Vice-Rector, Research, Discovery, Creation and to innovation, Université de Montréal with Yoshua Bengio (Université de Montréal), Rebecca Finlay (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research), Lyse Langlois (Université Laval) and Christine Tappolet (Université de Montréal).

 

With the Montreal Declaration for a Responsible Development of Artificial Intelligence, a vast reflection has been undertaken to put in place guidelines to better manage artificial intelligence and digital technology.

 

This text will serve as a guide to feed the reflections and research of the Observatory on the Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology.
