Presentation of the results of the 2nd edition of the Food Trust Barometer at the annual meeting of the partners of the Politique biolimentaire du Québec

Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, President and Chief Executive Officer of CIRANO and Full Professor at Polytechnique Montréal, and Ingrid Peignier, Senior Director of Partnerships and Research Valorization and Projects Director at CIRANO, presented the results of the 2nd edition of the Food Confidence Barometer on Thursday, May 20, at the annual meeting of the Biofood Policy partners.

As part of the government's Biofood Policy, the level of consumer confidence is monitored periodically using the Baromètre de la confiance des consommateurs québécois à l'égard des aliments. This measurement tool was developed by a team of researchers from the Centre interuniversitaire de recherche en analyse des organisations (CIRANO) following a review of the literature on the concepts of confidence applied to the food sector and a consultation with numerous stakeholders in the food sector. A first edition was produced in 2019.

This report, which presents the first analyses from the second Food Trust Barometer survey administered in February 2021, provides public policy makers as well as any organization in the biofood sector with a wealth of information to assist in decision-making. Both the descriptive statistics presented and the socio-demographic profiles of respondents for certain questions help to better identify the issues that concern Quebecers and to evaluate their level of confidence in food. This second edition captures the changes in consumer behaviour related to the COVID-19 health crisis.
