Employment, disability and inclusion: Focus on the DEPPI initiative

On November 8, CIRANO was pleased to welcome nearly 40 people from community, government and academic organizations to a public event dedicated to employment, disability and inclusion.

CIRANO researchers and members of the DEPPI team were able to share key research findings to better understand the challenges and identify concrete solutions to integrating people with disabilities into the job market.

They explained that :

  • Discrimination is the main barrier to employment perceived by people with disabilities.
  • 76% of participants in a DEPPI study said they did not disclose their disabilities on their CVs, but almost all revealed them during job interviews.

This event was part of the DEPPI team's fall tour. DEPPI's multidisciplinary project aims to improve understanding of the preparation, integration, access, participation and job retention of people with disabilities. Its objective: to propose public policies that promote the employability of people with disabilities and help build a more inclusive and competitive job market.

Thanks to Charles Bellemare (Université Laval, CIRANO), Audrey Dupont (CRISPESH), Marie Laberge (Université de Montréal), Sylvain Letscher (Université du Québec à Rimouski) and Ingrid Peignier (CIRANO) for this moment of exchange.
