On the occasion of the publication of the CIRANO-IEDDEC Bourgogne report "Enquête sur les entreprises touchées par le SPEDE de GES du Québec", the Chair in Energy Sector Management, in collaboration with CIRANO, IEDDEC and the FCCQ, presented the conference "Carbon Market - Industry Experiences, California's Post-2020 Proposal and Quebec's Action Plan".
This conference took stock of the recent proposals of the California government for its post-2020 carbon market, to which the current Quebec carbon market is linked. First, a review of the survey results provided a better understanding of how Quebec businesses perceive the current carbon market. The proposed California changes will put into perspective the upcoming challenges and questions for emitters. Finally, Quebec's climate change action plan was analyzed in a regional context (Northeastern U.S.), in relation to that of our partners in the carbon market (California and Ontario) and in light of related efforts in the energy transition.
