Women in Economics: 3rd edition

The 3rd edition of the "Women in Economics" event was held on April 19 on the Université Laval campus. This event was organized in partnership with Université Laval's Faculty of Social Sciences and Department of Economics, CIRANO, the Committee of Canadian Women Economists (CCWE) and the Centre de recherche sur les risques, les enjeux économiques et les politiques publiques (CRREP), and with the financial participation of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Guest speaker Pascaline Dupas, professor at Princeton University, presented her work on gender dynamics in economics research seminars. "Gender and the Dynamics of Economics Seminars", conducted with Alicia Sasser Modestino, Muriel Niederle and Justin Wolfers, is the first study to systematically examine "seminar culture" and quantitatively assess gender bias in this particular context.

Sonia Laszlo, professor at McGill University, researcher and CIRANO Fellow, presented the state of knowledge on the issue of gender bias.

The symposium was also be an opportunity for PhD and post-doctoral students to present their work at a research seminar on gender economics.

This event was held in the presence of Julie Gingras, Deputy Minister of Finance of Quebec and Catherine Ferembach, Associate Deputy Minister of Québec Secrétariat à la condition féminine.

The day before the event, on April 18, students in economics and related fields whose work focuses on gender inequality were invited to a networking cocktail reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
