Baromètre de la confiance des consommateurs québécois à l'égard des aliments - 4e Édition

Quebecers and Food: Local Origin Reassures, Transparency Builds Trust, and Literacy Prepares the Future

Since 2019, the CIRANO Baromètre de la confiance des consommateurs québécois à l’égard des aliments has tracked the evolution of Quebecers’ perceptions, knowledge, and behaviors regarding food. The 2025 edition (De Marcellis-Warin & Peignier, 2025), conducted with a representative sample of 1,003 Quebecers, takes place in a post-pandemic context where food prices remain persistently high, amid a global climate marked by geopolitical and trade tensions. The Baromètre 2025 provides particularly rich insights. Quebecers’ confidence in their food has regained some momentum, but it remains fragile and rests on three pillars: proximity, transparency, and the credibility of stakeholders.

This nuanced picture highlights a dual challenge: meeting Quebecers’ expectations in terms of proximity and transparency, while strengthening citizens’ ability to understand and act within an increasingly complex food system.
