Henri-Paul Rousseau is joining CIRANO as an Invited Fellow

CIRANO is honored and pleased to welcome Henri-Paul Rousseau among its Invited Fellows.

 

Henri-Paul Rousseau
Holder of a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario (1973), he was Professor at both the Université du Québec à Montréal and Université Laval. In 1986, he became Chief Economist and Vice President at the National Bank of Canada. He then became the Chief Executive Officer at the Boréale Insurance Company (1992-1994), and at the Laurentian Bank of Canada (1994-2002). Henri-Paul Rousseau also held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) from 2002 to 2008. He also held the position of Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors at Power Corporation and Corporation Financière Power from 2009 to 2017. Mr. Rousseau sat on the CIRANO Board of Directors from 2013 to 2018 as the representative of Power Corporation of Canada.

Henri-Paul Rousseau also received honorary doctorates from Concordia University, Lumière University Lyon 2, Université Laval and Université de Sherbrooke to highlight his contribution as an economist, experienced manager and engaged citizen. In 2006, he was named "Grand Montréalais" by the Académie des Grands Montréalais of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal.

Mr. Rousseau will be Visiting Professor at the Paris School of Economics during the 2018-2019 academic year. He will focus his research on the impact of new digital technologies and robotization on government activity, as well as public policies on taxation, income distribution and regulation. These themes fit into CIRANO’s pole of excellence on social economic impacts of digital transformation and AI launched in 2018. Henri-Paul will collaborate with CIRANO Researchers on these issues.
