Julien Martin participates in a roundtable hosted by the Institut d’études internationales de Montréal (IEIM)

On October 17, 2025, the Institut d’études internationales de Montréal (IEIM) launched its 2025–2026 programming with a roundtable gathering experts from UQAM in political science, law, economics, and humanitarian action.

The discussion focused on Canada’s strategic and fiscal priorities amid a rapidly changing international landscape characterized by weakened multilateralism, growing trade tensions, and shifting global alliances.

Julien Martin, Professor at Université du Québec à Montréal, CIRANO Researcher and Fellow, and Principal Researcher of the Global Economy theme, contributed an economic perspective on the fragmentation of global trade and the challenges facing Canada’s competitiveness.

The event, which brought together nearly one hundred participants both in person and online, fostered reflection on Canada’s economic and diplomatic positioning in the face of ongoing global transformations.
