Dialogue on Education Research and Data: A Day of Exchange between Researchers and Practitioners

On October 30, 2025, CIRANO and the Quebec Interuniversity Centre for Social Statistics (CIQSS) held a dialogue day on education research and data, gathering members of the academic community, government representatives, and practitioners.

The morning featured several research projects in education using diverse data sources to better understand the challenges of the Quebec education system and inform public policy. The afternoon sessions showcased datasets from various organizations—covering topics ranging from academic success to professional trajectories—to open new avenues for research and collaboration.

At the heart of the day, Marie Connolly, Professor at ESG UQAM and CIRANO Fellow, presented her work on the economic benefits of improving male graduation rates in Quebec and on school dropout, highlighting the importance of empirical analysis to support evidence-based policymaking.

This joint initiative by CIRANO and CIQSS fostered a fruitful dialogue between researchers, ministries, and partners, strengthening the connection between academic research and educational practice.
