CIRANO welcomes Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences David Card for a morning of work

CIRANO had the pleasure of welcoming Nobel Prize laureate in Economic Sciences (2021) David Card to its downtown Montréal offices on October 29, 2025, for a morning of work with Benoit Dostie, CIRANO Researcher and Fellow, and Principal Researcher of the Skills theme—reflecting the lasting scientific connections between researchers in Québec and abroad.

David Card was visiting Montréal as part of Concordia University’s convocation ceremonies, where he received an honorary doctorate in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the economic analysis of labor.

Currently Professor of the Graduate School and Class of 1950 Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, David Card is internationally renowned for his pioneering work in labor economics. His research— which has profoundly transformed the understanding of labor markets—focuses on minimum wage, immigration, education, inequality, and gender dynamics. By using natural experiments to observe real market behavior, he helped spark the so-called “credibility revolution” in economics.
