Jarislowsky Chair in Corporate Governance at the John Molson School of Business of Concordia University, Main Researcher of the theme Governance and Financial Markets at CIRANO, presented the results of the CIRANO report "Appui gouvernemental à l’innovation : Proposition de cadre intégré" (co-written with Robert Turgeon).
Innovation is a strategic issue, both in terms of public policy and within companies. This report addresses the issue of supporting innovation in an integrated manner, i.e. from both the supply and demand sides. In our view, these two dimensions are complementary in the development of an innovative ecosystem. In addition, the report highlights the strategic importance of implementing and commercializing innovation to ensure that society as a whole and organizations reap the full benefits. Our analysis focuses on six models of innovation support, including MaRS in Toronto and Teralys in Montreal. One finding that emerges is that there is no single model for success in supporting innovation.
