Measuring the performance of innovation
On June 17th, the CIRANO - ADRIQ - Quebec Innovation Council Innovation Forum was co-organized by Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, CIRANO CEO, Pascal Monette, ADRIQ CEO and Luc Sirois, Quebec Chief Innovator. Marie-Chantal Chassé, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economy and Innovation was present. Henri Paul Rousseau, CIRANO Invited Fellow, gave the opening conference. Bringing together more than 80 representatives of numerous governmental and industrial organizations as well as researchers, this Forum was an opportunity to discuss the measurement of innovation performance. It is a first step to prepare the Innovation Summit to be held in the fall.

Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin appointed as a member of an expert panel on the future of Canada's digital infrastructure
tw Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin has been appointed as a member of the Public Policy Forum (PPF) Expert Panel on the Future of Canada's Digital Infrastructure.  The project is entitled "Connecting Canada - Investing in a Faster and Fairer Digital Infrastructure».

Catherine Haeck will co-direct the Education axis of the new Observatory for Children's Education and Health (OPES) based at CHU Sainte-Justine
tw Catherine Haeck, principal investigator in Economics of Education for the theme Skills at CIRANO, is involved in the implementation of the new Observatory for Children's Education and Health (OPES) based at CHU Sainte-Justine. She will co-lead the Education axis in addition to leading the Economic Development axis. This will allow synergies with the research work Catherine is doing at CIRANO.

Bernard Fortin appointed "Fellow of the Canadian Economics Association"
tw Bernard Fortin, retired full professor and associate professor in the Department of Economics at Université Laval and Fellow at CIRANO, has been appointed “Fellow of the Canadian Economics Association". The title of Fellow of the Canadian Economics Association is conferred to recognize the achievements and contribution to the discipline of the most prominent economists who have spent a significant portion of their career in Canada.

Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin participated in the panel "Propelling Women in STEM" Organized by the Prosperity Project
tw Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin (Polytechnique Montreal), CEO of CIRANO, participated on June 10 in the panel "Propelling Women in STEM and Non-Traditional Occupations" with Audrey Murray (CPMT), Maryse Lasonde (Conseil supérieur de l'éducation) and Aïchatou Hélène Abdou (Poka Inc.). The panel was moderated by Kerlande Mibel (founding president of the International Black Economic Forum).

CIRANO participates in the creation of the Quantum Technology Strategy for Quebec
tw On June 22nd, the Quantum Technologies strategy proposal for Quebec was unveiled, co-created by Numana and various key actors of the ecosystem, including Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation, CIRANO, INO, the Université de Sherbrooke and the BDC. Richard Bruno (CIRANO Visiting Fellow) is a member of the Quantum Advisory Committee.

Moreover, CIRANO is proud to unveil the yearly theme 2021-2022: "Skills and the Labour Market". This theme is at the heart of current issues that interest our partners. Announcement of the winners of the 2021 CIRANO Fiscal Policy Challenge
tw The 3 winners of the CIRANO Fiscal Policy Challenge 2021 on "The Economic Lessons of the Pandemic" were announced in the presence of representatives of the Quebec Ministry of Finance: 1st prize Thomas Boyer (University of Montreal), 2nd prize Simon Losier (HEC Montreal) and 3rd prize Arthur Adam (University of Montreal). Congratulations to the winners!

Tribute to the winners of the 2021 Bourstad Challenge
tw At a virtual tribute ceremony held on May 31 at the invitation of Ms. Cathy Sleiman (TD Direct Investments), honorary president of the Challenge, and Ms. Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, CEO of CIRANO, the names of the winners of the 117 mentions of excellence and grand prizes awarded by the jury of the Bourstad 2021 Competition, presided over by Ms. Ioana Circo, CFA, of the University of Montreal, were disclosed. More than 3000 participants this year, a hundred prizes for a total of $30,000. A big thank you to the Contest partners, including the Autorité des marchés financiers, its main partner.

2021 North American Summer Meeting of the Econometric Society

The 2021 North American Summer Meeting of the Econometric Society will be held virtually on June 10-13, 2021 and will be hosted by the Department of Economics at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). The local organizers are Alain Guay and Dalibor Stevanovic (UQAM & CIRANO). Several CIRANO researchers were involved Sílvia Gonçalves  and Fabian Lange (McGill University), Benoit Perron and René Garcia (Université de Montréal).
