| Transport Canada grants $2.6 million to CIRANO |

Transport Canada announced funding for the project "Data Science and Knowledge Transfer Hub for Trade and Intermodal Transportation in the St. Lawrence/Great Lakes Corridor (SLGL)." For this project, the Government of Canada will contribute up to $2.6 million over 5 years to CIRANO through the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF). Researcher and Fellow Thierry Warin (HEC Montréal and CIRANO) led the application. Several researchers from HEC Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, UQAM, Université de Montréal, Université du Québec à Rimouski, University of Ottawa will be involved, in collaboration with CIRRELT and IVADO. Various ministries, municipalities, and ecosystem stakeholders will be involved in different aspects of the project. The launch will take place on March 21, at the CIRANO Pole on Data Science for Trade and Intermodal Transportation's annual Symposium, organized in collaboration with Transport Canada.

The Barometer is a measurement tool developed at CIRANO.

| A recent CIRANO report by Brahim Boudarbat (Université de Montréal, CIRANO) and Idossou Marius Adom (International Monetary Fund) concludes that integration into the job market in Quebec and Canada is determined more by belonging to a visible minority than by being an immigrant. Even if they were born in Canada, members of visible minorities seem to struggle to carve out a place for themselves in the job market.
During this symposium, Brahim Boudarbat will present the highlights of his study. A panel of people from various backgrounds will then discuss the issues involved in welcoming and integrating immigrants to Quebec. |
