CIRANO-CIREQ-RSI-CREEi 2022 Workshop on the Economics of Ageing

As part of the « Montreal Series on the Economy of Aging », this conference was held on April 28 and 29, 2022. This open academic event brought together international and national scientists studying the economics of aging.

Throughout the 2-day conference, 8 speakers and 8 discussants discussed the most recent work on the topic. Among them, two CIRANO Fellows Pierre-Carl Michaud (HEC Montréal, CIRANO) and Raquel Fonseca (ESG-UQAM, CIRANO) and several Canadian and international experts including Naoki Aizawa (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Todd Morris (Retirement and Savings Institute, HEC Montréal), John Bailey Jones (Reserve Bank of Richmond), Minjoon Lee (Carleton University), Martin B. Hackmann (University of California at Los Angeles), Ami Ko (Georgetown University), Bertrand Achou (Retirement and Savings Institute, HEC Montréal), Karen Kopecky (Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta), Daniel Barczyk (McGill University), Cormac O'Dea (Yale University), Franca Glenzer (HEC Montréal), Svetlana Pashchenko (University of Georgia) and Panos Margaris (Concordia University).

Réjean Hébert appointed to the National Seniors Council
tw The Minister of Seniors, Kamal Khera, and the Minister of Health, Jean-Yves Duclos, announced the appointment of a new member to the National Seniors Council, Dr. Réjean Hébert, for a three-year term. Réjean Hébert is a geriatrician with Montréal’s regional public health department, a full professor at the Department of Health Management, Evaluation and Policy at Université de Montréal’s School of Public Health (ESPUM) and a CIRANO researcher.

CIRANO researchers present at the Global congress on artificial intelligence
tw Researchers Nathalie de Marcellis-Warin, Polytechnique Montreal, Thierry Warin, HEC Montreal and Ingrid Peignier, CIRANO, participated in the TimeworldEvent. This was an opportunity to present research work from CIRANO and the Observatoire international sur les impacts sociétaux de l'IA et du numérique (OBVIA) on digital and AI in agriculture, AI training and new AI business models.

En Avant Math! Partnership
tw In its March 2022 budget, the Government of Quebec is planning to allocate $1.5 million in 2022-2023 to enable the Centre de recherches mathématiques de l'Université de Montréal (CRM) and CIRANO to continue their work in the "En avant Math" partnership. For the past three years, the CRM and CIRANO have been working together to establish a strategy to foster the development of a highly qualified workforce in applied mathematics for leading-edge fields.

Study to assess the incidence of COVID-19 in Quebec - Updated with data from the week of April 28 to May 3rd, 2022
tw The update of the CIRANO study to estimate the incidence of COVID-19 cases in Quebec shows a significant decrease for this 16th week of collection, which took place from April 28 to May 3rd, 2022, compared to the previous week. The number range from 18,000 to 40,500 cases per day, depending on the estimation method used.

From May 9 to 11, 2022, 4Point0 is organizing the second international conference "Policies, Processes and Practices for Performance of Innovation Ecosystems" (P4IE). This hybrid event will bring together graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, practitioners, policy makers, academic and non-academic researchers including Catherine Beaudry, professor at Polytechnique Montréal, Canada Research Chair in Management and Economics of Innovation and CIRANO Fellow and Genevieve Dufour, director of major collaborative projects at CIRANO. The objective of the conference is to share knowledge on existing technologies, practices, processes and policies, on their impact on innovation ecosystems. It will also be a unique opportunity to discuss the best strategies to put in place.

The 61st Annual Meeting of the Société canadienne de science économique (SCSE) will be held from May 11 to 13, 2022 in Montreal at Polytechnique Montréal. Each year, this conference brings together researchers from all countries of the French-speaking world. For this new edition, many CIRANO researchers will be present such as Silvia Gonçalves, Sophie Bernard, Marine Carrasco, Marie Connolly, Benoit Dostie, Marcelin Joanis, Fabian Lange, Mathieu Marcoux, Dalibor Stevanovic, Nicolas Vincent or Catherine Haeck. Award ceremony of the 35th edition of the Bourstad competition

On Tuesday, May 24, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the awards ceremony for the 35th edition of the Bourstad competition will be held. At the ceremony, the contest jury, chaired by Ms. Fanie Dubuc, Senior Enforcement Counsel at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC), will award prizes totalling more than $35,000 to the participants who have excelled in the three components of the competition: financial performance, portfolio management and responsible investing.
